Mindfulness can be a useful part of therapy for children, teens, and adults who feel overwhelmed by their thoughts, emotions, stress, or the demands of everyday life. Rather than trying to eliminate difficult thoughts or feelings, mindfulness helps people become more aware of what they are experiencing and learn how to respond in a more thoughtful and intentional way.
At Endeavor Psychotherapy Associates, mindfulness-based strategies may be incorporated into therapy along with other approaches based on each client’s age, needs, and goals. These techniques can help clients slow things down, notice patterns in their thoughts and emotions, and develop greater awareness of how they respond to stressful situations.
Mindfulness-based strategies may be helpful with:
• Anxiety, worry, and feeling overwhelmed
• Stress and difficulty relaxing
• Emotional regulation and frustration
• ADHD and difficulty slowing down or staying present• Negative or repetitive thinking
• Low mood and self-criticism• School, work, or relationship stress
Building Skills That Extend Beyond Therapy
Mindfulness does not have to mean sitting quietly and meditating for long periods of time. Depending on the client, it may involve learning to notice thoughts without immediately reacting to them, becoming more aware of physical signs of stress, practicing breathing or grounding strategies, or simply creating a pause before responding to a difficult situation.
Our goal is to help clients develop practical skills they can use outside of the therapy room, whether they are dealing with anxiety, frustration, school pressure, relationship difficulties, or the everyday stresses of life.
